Hello, can you help?

I am having rendered a gable end timbre framed structure, onto metal lathe.
What is the maximum are of render before requiring an expansion joint, either vertically or horizontally?

Should the render be 3 coat lime mortar, or will sand/ cement with a polymer added for flexibility be OK ?

should I also have an expansion joint to the eves and soffit?

Thanks, Beccy, Isle of Mull

from memory, sand and cement needs expansion joints every 5 metres, lime render is much better, not sure how this works on metal lath though
