Replacing Floorboards with MDF in the Bathroom

Hi
In the bathroom , we get floorboards which were replaces by 2 planks of mdf then tiled over. The reason they did this was they claimed the floorboards in the other part of the house were poor quality so they used the ones in the bathroom. I thought standard practice was to put one plank of mdf on the floorboards then tile
Does anyone know if this is safe?

thats fine if they dont get wet. I would of prefered to see plywood myself tho!
