Need to repoint my back step. The step was already here when I moved, but the way the bricks have been laid in a semi circle, instead of an equal amount of gap (say 10mm) from front to back, the pointing goes from about 2mm at the back to about 10-12mm at the front like a wedge shape. Whoever did the brickwork didn't create an equal distance to point the bricks, more like a wedge of cheese. Any tips on how to do a good job of pointing when the brick placement is like this?

Image shows how gap between bricks is (circled in red) as opposed to an even joint in the bricks below. The image was found online and not the actual brickwork.

Thanks!

What colour bricks have you got. You can use a brick coloured mortar and then cut out and put another even sized joint in normal mortar in.
