have some table lamps where the BC pins do not make touch the supply contacts underneath until a bulb is fitted, it pushes the pins down against a spring. One of them has got loose and when you switch it on you have to press the lamp down or it won't come on. The lampholder incorporates a switch, and you can feel it pressing up against the lamp when you switch it on. The lamp base is not obstructed by the skirt (I fitted a wider one to make sure).
As it is in a ceramic base it will be awkward to unscrew and replace the lampholder, since it was screwed in (presumably) using some long, very thin tool through the small hole underneath.
before I start pulling it apart, or bin it, anyone done it before or got any suggs?
