hi guys...which is the correct/approved way to install 2 outside security lights (150w each)..is it good practice to take a feed from exising downstairs lighting circuit or to get a feed from the ring main or maybe even a dedicated circuit from the CU....also would i have to put in a fcu?????.......

to elaborate a bit

don't come off the existing lighting circuit unless other loading is very light (even if you have checked out the loading and it just about fits i wouldn't do it as interior lighting tends to get upgraded)

if coming direct from the CU use a 6A breaker, a type C may be a good idea to keep down neusense tripping (especilly if putting two on one breaker)

if coming off a ring fuse it down using a FCU fitted with a 3A fuse (fuses tend not to be bothered by surges like mcbs are)

thanks plugwash....there are currently only 3 x 60w bulbs in use on the downstairs circuit....so fairly light load but i think i'll probably run it off the ring with fcu......thanks again
