Shrubs/plants/soil to decking

What do I need to do to prep for decking?

I have taken out some big shrubs, so have some holes to fill. Still have lots of plants to take out.
There is a few paving slabs in there as well.

Is decking the best solution. just want a cheap BBQ/play area which I can do myself and is cheap with zero maintenance?

Personally I'd flag the area Mick - but I'm no fan of decking at all.....especially if nasties and livestock can lurk beneath!

If you want zero maintenance decking is a poor choice. Flags laid on mortar with pointed joints is the lowest maintenance surface.
