What is the difference between single and double pole electric sockets?

Double Pole isolates both live and neutral. Single Pole just isolates the live. Douple Pole is safer. Where have you seen single pole sockets?

I need to buy some sockets and the catalogue offers a choice, I wasn't sure which to buy. Thanks for your help. (Double it is then!)
