I have had some electrical work carried out with new buried trunking meaning I have a need for a small volume of F&B 'Slipper Satin' paint to make good the plasterwork repair. But I only need to paint one small area, certainly not justifying a whole new can of paint! I'm guessing a couple of hundred mls would be sufficient. Is there any website that enables me to source a small volume of a specific type of paint? We had a part-used 5 litre can left over when we originally carried out the work, and by 12 months, it smelled like rotten eggs and was binned. Knowing that this paint has a definite (and quite short) shelf life, I'd have gladly given away the excess last time. How do I find people in the same boat who might be able to help me with my small volume requirement?

Worth a try!

I have used F&B 100ml sample tins

footprints beat me to it;

I had a look at the sample tins, and will probably go that way, if they really are true to colour. Ideally, I'd like to repaint a defined section of the whole wall, rather than just over the plaster repair, as a means of better hiding the repainting, and that might take two, perhaps three little tester tins. Pretty soon, you have spent as much as a 1 litre tin!

Homebase do relatively cheap paint matching sample pots, just take a chunk of plaster along. Not perfect lME but generally blends in.

Never worked with F&B but heard lots of pro's saying it is horrible to work with and touch ups show. I would bite the bullet and get a tin to paint a complete wall. (y)

I am not a fan of their paints but to be fair, depending on the light source, almost all emulsions leave a slight halo effect around the edges.

Erm... I don't think that they sell 1L tins of emulsion.

The main problem with colour matching is that they simply find the closest colour in a given firm's range of paints. It is not like they add the pigments to make an exact match.

It can be very hit and miss.

I have had some colours that were sufficiently close enough to the customer's wall that they couldn't tell the difference, but I have never encountered a colour match that was close enough to touch in with.

A couple of years ago, I had to colour match a red uPVC door. I took the company brochure to a local Dulux Decorator Centre. The scanned the image, said it was a 98% match. The colour was massively out. In the end, I called the manufacturer and asked them what the RAL colour was. I then went back to the Dulux and they gave me the correct colour.
