My house was built in the 70's - I think this fitting is original but I have no idea what it is? It has pins which are similar to a standard plug, only a lot thinner and recessed into the socket. It is mounted the same height as the top of doors/windows. My only thought is it's a "special" plug for the missus iron, so she can happily iron unhindered all day long, and yet cannot reach to unplug it. This was designed to 70's spec after all... Whatever it is, it's going - just curious what it is!

(Or maybe a special fitting for a plug-in clock, but can be removed to change the time then plug it back in again?)
