when adding extra sockets to a property, do they have to be 450mm from the floor if the exsisting ones are not?

i would say that even if it was a complete re-wire ,
you wouldnt have to change them because a lot of
the time you would only be replacing the cable and
utilising the exsisting sockets etc

Some LABC's get it wrong.

New builds = compliant with part M, so CU, sockets and light switches must be 450-1200 from 'finished' floor level.

On alterations, new circuits and re-wires is is acceptable to retain the sockets and switches at the dwellings existing positions.

On rewires the same applies, since the majority of the existing positions for sockets and switches could be redeployed for the new wiring.

Ditto joist holes and routes, it's stupid to rewire an existing dwelling and add extra notching and holes to joists- They would end up like Swiss cheese and the integrity of the joist could be compromised.

Is an extension classed as a new build?

If the rest of the house have them lower & then there is little point in them being higher in the new extension.

And would this alone be a reason not to provide a cert for it?

Thank's for the reply.

I'll pass your comments onto my mate with the extension.
