Hi all (not been here for a while, hope you are all well)

i have not fitted any solar. (although my van says i do!!)

How about some comments on this idea

Small solar collector (flat or tubes)

Modern storage heater, but instead of wired up for mains it has the solar heat pumped through it (bricks store the heat).

This could be released in the day to warm the house in the day, or keep vents closed and open at night time.

Could the collector go directly outside the room it intends to heat and also could have the heater on that same wall, but obviuolsy on the inside.

Any constructive thoughts

Hi all (not been here for a while, hope you are all well)

don't give up the day job ;) We need heated homes in winter when there is little solar input. With that idea we would have a sauna in the summer and an icebox in the winter.

firstly the collector would need/ideally be south of close to south facing.

personally i'd go for a thermal store unit being fed by the solar collector. then from the thermal store route a heating system from that plus a plate heat exchanger. also have a 2nd coil fed from a boiler if needed + 3rd coil for a back boiler of a wood burner. you also need a electric element so the unit can get upto + 65degrees to remove legionairs issue. (obviously it will be + 65 degrees but thats what the law states).

the idea of the old brick style units isn't really possible due to control of heat temp and so on.

thinking about it more i think we would not get to actually warm the storage heater in the winter. and cost per rad could all add up to rather alot anyhow
