Is this acceptable?, ring main in kitchen has a spur off a double socket supplying another double socket then a single socket for washing machine [has an isolation switch] and then onto a fused outlet for boiler power.I thought you should not spur off a spur?

No, unless the spur is fused (i.e. fed from ring via a fused connection unit) then it's not acceptable. As you say, an unfused spur can only supply one socket (single or double), or other single load.

Thanks, that's as I thought, it's in my daughters flat [local housing association] the rest of the electrics looks ok , just thought I would bring it to the attention of the L/Lord. I think the recent boiler installation guy just saw a pair of wires at the nearest point and assumed it was part of ring, not a spur off a spur.

He certainly wouldn't be the first to have made that mistake - and one hopes that an electrician would have identified the truth of the situation and acted accordingly. However, from what you say, it sounds as if there was probably already a single socket spurred off the (spurred) double socket before the boiler man appeared on the scene - so it could well have been unacceptable (at least, non-compliant with Wiring Regulations) even before he made it even worse!

Kind Regards, John
