Hi everyone, a friend asked me to look at her cooker as the oven wasn't working. The fan works without heat. From experience does anyone know what the problem could be, I have looked at the model for parts and a website mentioned something about replacing the p.c.b or is the element a common fault? All advice much appreciated

I've had our Stoves 1100 DF range cooker in bits to fix a similar problem, but on the grill. Same symptoms ie the fan worked but neither of the grill elements did. In our case it was a faulty switch.

I expected a traditional rheostat and some sort of temp sensor, but it wasn't. The switch has it's own inbuilt way of telling how much power it has fed to each of the elements and therefore how hot they would be, then adjusting the current as necessary. The fan had it's own power feed from the switch, but on a different spade terminal. I can't remember the name for the type of switch, but wikipedia described it well.

The element should be easy to diagnose, just disconnect the terminals and check for continuity.

We got our replacement from www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk who are based in Kilmarnock, Scotland. I got a really helpful guy on the phone at 0845 1728001 (I've no connections to this company).
