I have just purchased a 60's bungalow which has the lighting circuits wired with single stranded red and black wires (IE not twin and earth) I haven't followed the cables through yet, but they appear to pass via a number of black junction boxes. Does this need re-wiring. The cables appear sound.

Thanks
Paul

I would rewire the circuit, and also have the other electrics checked. Had the same situation with our bung. when I pulled out the old cable, found NO earth cable in any of it.

Remember if in doubt, CHECK IT OUT.

that being the case, (no earth) what about the sockets, i would be inclined to check them all

NOT pouring water on what you say Breezer, but never seen sockets without earth certainly not stranded imperial T & E. Even the really old brown bakelite round pin jobbies I still ocassionally come across have a single strand earth. (The sort I like to rip out and use for fishing/mousing).
