Hi, I'm thinking of using pine matchboarding instead of plasterboard to cover the ceiling of my new kitchen extension, and was wondering if I will need to apply intumescent paint to it or not? I would ask the building inspector, but he'd probably tell me that it needs it even if it doesn't, and so I was hoping someone here might know. Many thanks.

I think you may have answered your own question.
Yes, they'd say you need it.
I wanted to do my loft conversion in it.
What!!!
They cried.
No, no, no, no, no!
Not even with intumescent paint.
They must have their reasons.
Suppose it just stops you burning to death in a house fire. ;)

ask him if you can....aswell as plasterboard  maybe 2 layers of half inch, with staggered joints and intumescent sealed penetrations.
