to undercoat or not to undercoat that is the question

Hi,

This is my first post, I'm redecorating my sister's flat and I don't know whether to undercoat. It's all currently magnolia, and she wants me to repaint with magnolia, so I don't need to undercoat do I? also should I gloss, eggshell, or satinwood the skirting/doorframes?. They're not in tip-top condition so glossing would highlight the imperfections wouldn't it? what's the difference between eggshell/satinwood? any help would be appreciated as I start tomorrow,

There is no need to undercoat the walls, you can go straight over with the Mag.

Woodwork, if your going to gloss, then you need to undercoat first, unless its the one coat stuff, but if you want a flater finish, and not to show up the imperfections as much, then go for eggshell, satinwood has a sheen to it, whereas gloss is very shiny.
If you go for eggshell or satinwood, unless your woodword is really yellow or old, there is no need to undercoat, 2 coats of a good quality paint should give you a nice finish.
