Hi,

I've just replaced a ball valve in a downstairs toilet (thanks to this forum for identifying the problem).
The toilet is now fine and my cold water is fine now the stopcock is back on.
But somehow, this seems to have messed up my hot water.
I turn on the tap and I get a trickle and then it stops.
Also I daren't turn on my central heating in case I break that and it's c-c-c-cold.
Any help would be massively appreciated!

Thanks

Hi,

I don't know to be honest.
I've got a hot water tank in my airing cupboard upstairs, and a couple of tanks in the loft, and it's not a combi boiler.
Does that help?
If there's any other useful information I could give please ask.

Thanks

sounds like an air lock

I was just about to post this any way before I saw that you'd replied.
If I leave the hot tap off for five mins then try it again quite a bit of water comes out (in spurts) but then it just gradually stops flowing and then stops.
I'll read the FAQ anyway thanks.

def sounds like air lock. let us know how you get on after FAQing it

Thanks for all this.
I haven't done anything yet, as I just want to make sure I do the right thing.
I do have a mixer tap in my kitchen, at least I think I do, i.e. a knob for cold and a knob for hot, and they both come out through a single outlet.
So I thought that might be the best bet, since I don't know what a bath filler is.
So I should cover the outlet of the mixer tap with my hand to prevent any water from coming out, then turn both hot and cold water on?
How long should I shall to prevent the flow of water for, and how high should I turn the taps on, and should anything happen?
Sorry for all the question.

turn hot well on, cold not too much as the pressure may make it spray a little. as for time, its hard to say, basically as long as it takes mormally only a few seconds maybe 20 or so

Wear a rubber glove, it makes a better seal!! Turn the hot tap on, put your hand over and then turn cold on as much as you can without it spraying every where. Do it for 30 seconds then try the hot on its own. If it still doesn't run repeat until it does.

I have hot water!!!!
Thanks you so much twgas (and Breesey) for your swift responses.
Would you say it was now safe to turn on the central heating?
If ever there's anything you need to know about computers just ask, as it's the only thing I know anything about!
