Vaillant VCW GB 242 EH not flashing up

Help!! I have no CH or DHW at the moment....The boiler will go into start up routine, pumps and vent fan runs, diverter valve moves and operates the microswitches, the differential valve has been off and checked and cleaned, there is the correct voltage at the Gas section operator and the water section diaphragm is okay and moves the cam and operates the microswitch.....and then the red neon light comes on after about 10 seconds and it trips out and shuts down......
next bit to work on is the gas operator valve (according to the manual!).

Is it tricky, and what does it actually do, or does anyone have any other thoughts as to what it could be?

It supplies the fuel that powers your boiler in the same way that a carburettor supplies the fuel that powers your car. If there is a problem with your car you go to a mechanic............
