Good morning All,

Our 3 bedroom & 1 bathroom house has Econo7 storage heaters at the moment so we are planning to install GCH. We have received a number of quotes; the most competitive one is £3800 for the unit plus installation including pipes . The quote does NOT include the radiators (7 + towel rail) and TRV valves. The engineer is an approved Valliant installer and added on the quote 'Valliant 831'. I understand there is a newer version which is V 832. The unit will be positioned in the kitchen cupboard and the bathroom is upstairs, right on top of the kitchen.

I am interested to understand what the differences between V831 and V832 are and if in my case I should seek installation of the 832

Many thanks for your replies

Can you not ask your installer and then refer here if you have questions regarding his answer?
Just wondering!

The difference is that the 831 no longer complies with energy efficiency regulations as it has a standard efficiency pump in it, whereas the 832 has a shiny new "energy efficient" pump to make the boiler ErP Compliant. The long-term reliability of these new ErP pumps, which have only been fitted in boilers for a few months, is unknown but technically I don't think non-ErP boilers should be fitted any more. In reality, the ErP police aren't going to come and take you away if you do have a non-ErP boiler installed. Don't forget though, that the cheapest price isn't always the best, and that Intergas boilers are very nice ;)

Many thanks dilalio and muggles, I am having discussions with the installer, I was keen to listen to other peoples' views as well. I hope this is okay with you. My concern is obvious, for us it is a big change (from E7 to gas) and before I pay this amount of money I am seeking as many views as possible so we can feel as confortable as we can be when we take a final decision.
There is always room for further negotiation and discussion with my installer, I am still not sure if i should bother arguing over 831 vs 832 as there are pros and cons either side.

Out of interest what does your installer say about the 831 over the 832?
