valves on boiler

Is shutting the isolation valves on the flow and return to the boiler to drain the boiler a bad idea. I.e they usually leak afterwards?

Do it only if you really have to... or close them if you fancy a bit of extra work draining down and replacing....
 
It all depends on the boiler model.

Many are fine and many also leak too!

And guess there is no way of knowing if this model of boiler will be ok untill I turn them off

Only ones I ever trust are Vaillant Ecotec ones. Anything else I avoid like the plague.
