I'm bricking up an old chimney and will be plastering over and installing a new surround and electric fire in it's place. My question is where should I put the vent? I understand that normally a vent would be put just above skirting level but this would then get covered up by the electric fire. I thought putting a vent in the side of the chimeny brest but it's fairly shallow and I guess this would weaken the structure too much.
What would the normal thing be to do in this case?
Thanks.
(sorry if this has been covered before - I tried searching but couldn't find anything).
