Hi My wifes car starts ok but once it has warmed up a bit if you turn off the engine and then try to restart it can take 5 - 10 mins of starting and waiting to get it running again. it is a lupo 2000MY 1.4 auto and not so long ago had the car serviced and throttle body cleaned out
Any advice would be much appreciated

Obvious thing to change would be the coolant temp sender.
VW part number 6UO 919 501 B.
Should be a 4 pin connector on the coolant hose flange on the head (black/yellow in colour).
Should be under 20 quid and 2 minute job to fit.

If that doesn't solve it then probably the crankshaft position sensor, but i'd have the car plugged into a diagnostic computer before buying anything other than temp sender

Hi

Thanks this did solve the problem and now starts all the time - The only thing was that quite a bit of coolant comes out and i think some got onto apart which when the car had heated up made a funny smell - this now appears to have gone but anybody trying this i would suggest making sure you had something to stop any coolant going over pipes/ engine etc

thanks again

Colin
