I really like the look of the wall mounted basins with the shiny visible bottle traps. I'm thinking of mounting it on a solid brick wall (single) of a terrace house. Do these things need frames, or is that just for internal flimsy stud walls? ...will brick walls normally be fine?

you don't even need to fit them on a frame on a stud wall.
With a stud wall it might be enough to put a big screw into a noggin if you can be sure of finding one.
With a solid wall big Rawlbolts or some threaded bar glued into the wall with a 2-part resin is how I've done it. It's solid.
