washing machine of siemens -siwamat 6127-not taking water

Hi,we got a new rental apartment with a siemens washing machine in it -siwamat 6127-but,the machine seems to have a problem.its rotating but it doesnt take water .but can i check before calling a service man?thank you

take lid off
take sides off
check the water chamber for black gunge
or the pipes for gunge

is a common fault on these that the gunge confuses the machines sensors to think its got water in.
