Not sure if this belongs in 'plumbing' but here goes... I want to fit a dishwasher and need to fit a tee piece into the current kitchen water supply. Unfortunately the pipe (lagged copper) is cemented an inch or so into the wall. Am I likely to break the pipe if I carefully chip away to access the pipe or would I be better off taking a new supply from somewhere?

Thanks

Evening Darren...What you are proposing is possible but you will need a reasonable amount of room around the pipe to work on it...There is not likely to be any movement in the pipe to connect the tee so you will probably have to use a slip coupling too.

Is there not a more accessible section of pipe work nearby?...

Thanks Mark, you have confirmed my fears. The pipe is cemented in from where it enters the room (kitchen extension - through the old external walls) right down to the floor. Sounds like a lot of work to chisel out to get enough movement.

I will invest in a core drill set and take a new supply. This looks a like good deal to me

Thanks again.

It's agood deal but a bit OTT for this specific job...Just get a 20mm dia masonry drill long enough to cope with the wall thickness. Good practice to use a small dia drill first as a pilot before using the bigger size drill bit...If you do a pilot hole first you can then drill the main hole from both sides of the wall to reduce the amount of brickwork/plaster that can blow when drilling from one side only.
