how does one remove the cover of a close coupled wc tank when the flush button is set in a chrome ring on top of the cover locking down the cover. There doesnt appear to be any other fixings. The wc is MFI supplied.

if its one button the whole chrome fitting should unscrew, or the button pops out with the aid of an electrical screwdriver and you will find a fixing screw underneath.

If its two button you will need to push one button down then gently lever the other button out with your screwdriver you will then find a fixing screw.

Well thats the ones I use anyway.

Hope that helps.

Is the button connected with a cable? If so you need to nip the centre of the fixing on the cistern lid (where the cable is attaced) and they should part......??!!

thanks for your replies. Its a two-part flush button and it does unscrew off the flushing mechanism, the problem was the plastic mechanism - a doubtful looking arrangement.
