I have made lots of real wood cabinetry and my fair share of furniture and if it's not painted we usually do a few coats of wax finish or french polish with button polish and shellac.
For counter or desk tops that require a hard wearing finish I have only ever used a Formica type product, but I am making two huge curved desks measuring 2100mm long x 850mm deep. I am using 18mm walnut veneered MDF, laminated to 18 mm plain MDF on the underside giving a 36mm worktop thickness. I shall use 3mm thick real walnut lipping applied with an edge-bander.
My question is, rather than using a grain filler and multiple coats of shellac is there a product that I can use to give a hard wearing glass smooth finish.
I am thinking down the lines of a lacquer.
Thanks Steve
