A year or so ago we had plumbers in on the estate. They put in a electrical box from which we can have the radiators on or off as required.

Needless to say I have not used the thing. Anyway since that time I keep hearing a low pitched humming noise which is really annoying as it starts early in the morning.

I have noticed that the cold water type vibrates slightly. I have reported this to my landlord as cold water hammer.

Please can someone advise me?

:D

One thing is for sure, humming is not water hammer.
Bit hard to comment as to what it is with so little info.

plumbers - electrical box ?

Sounds like something wrong there :D

If I was asked to have a guess then I would say thats its a motorised valve to turn a communal heating system on or off.

I commented previously about the humming/buzzing sound coming from my bathroom boiler cupboard.

It was driving me insane as it vereberated through to my bedroom, so this weekend I looked inside the cupboard properly and turned a valve down and the noise has stopped.

The valve was not attached to the offending pipe. It was a very hot pipe, probably too high anyway.

Thing is I think the valve is to regulate the heating in the radiators but don't know why the noise has stopped. I'm glad though!!!!!! :D

its not really a good idea to fiddle with stuff you know nothing about. I am glad the humming has stopped but now you should call the landlord and ask for a plumber to call, its not gonna cost you anything and you wont get a bill if you have done something to cause damage.

Dont you have anything more exciting to do in your bedroom?

How about listening to some loud hip hop ?

Or watching Britains got Talent ?
