Well, the repairs cost £2000 in the end, and after a month, it all happened again... WPD denied everything the first time, and the second time they actually sent a linesman who knew what he was talking about rather than a meter installer. One bad neutral (copper/alu joint) from the split phase transformer later, they have now accepted all liability and we took great pleasure in giving them the now £4000 bill. Anyone that wants a bag full of 40 nearly new HAGAR RCBO's with slight smoke damage knows where to ask...
