i need to replace some of the windowsills and was wondering what is the best timber to use for this?

Traditionally South Amertican would have been the timber of choice because it is fairly resistant to rot and borers. Nowadays you'd probably struggle to find any although you should be able to find African (khaya) mahogany which is not as resistant but still does a reasonable job. Some merchants will offer luan, meranti or other Far Eastern timbers, but they are much less suitable as they are nowhere near as durable in exterior projects
