Hi all

We are renovating a derelict property on the coast. We have to replace all the lintels and windows and doors. Ideally we like the appearence of wooden exterior lintels, which is what is there now. But are they practical? Will they rot or shrink? Are we better off going with concrete (which we don't want to) or stone or brick?

All help appreciated......!

i used to work for the national trust for scotland, old castles, buildings and monuments some of these structures are 800yrs old with oak lintels.
and still as good as the day they were installed.
you cant beat the old methods for robustness.

hope this helps.
:D

The hardwood lintels will last for years, well past your lifetime when you can stop worrying about it!
