y-plan syncron motor

A diverter valve takes up one of two positions, HW or CH
A 3port mid positon valve takes up any of three positions, HW, HW/CH(mid position) or CH

Actually, I wouldn't have thought a diverter valve would be good for heating and hot water. I certainly wouldn't use one.

Both types of valve have 1 in 2 out, so if you are to replace the actuator head you need to obtain the correct head. What is the make and model No?

its honeywell and seems to have 59421 stamped on the top of it
if that helps looks like it has 5 wires blue,grey,red,white...and a
green and yellow wire
can't find the serial tag inside the cover and should the motor
be hot with heating on.....

cheers.really are you sure as my mate seems to think its a diverter
as you only have h/w or c/h. no h/w c/h

Positive.

If you look it's probably got 4073 on the case end.

The No 59421 did not lead me to the answer, but mid position valves have five wires, white, grey, orange, blue and green/yellow.
honeywell diverter valve V4044C has three wires brown, blue and green/yellow.
It would not come as a surprise if you find it has not been wired correctly if the valve never took up the mid position, until either HW or CH was satisfied, when it would move fully to the not satisfied mode.

You have to drain down to do it.

You can buy an adapter plate for future problems.
