I have a Zanussi ZWF 14280W which has a problem with the motor not able to drive the drum. I runs fine with the drum belt off, but when the drum belt is back on it doesn't want to turn in either direction.

I had a reply to this suggesting that I checked the brushes. I have done that but now want to know what I should be looking for on the brushes since they are still quite long and the springs are also reasonably strong. I can see on the brushes that the contact point is very small, any ideas about how this could happen. Also the brushes look like they are in two halves running length wise.
