surround sound system problem

just bought a pioneer, 3d, blue ray, dvd/surround sound system, with which I have a small problem.
LG full hd tv,
virgin media box connected via hdmi
pioneer system connected via hdmi
and optical lead between tv andpioneer system.
Problem-: when watching a tv channel which is (+ 1 hour) from the virgin media box I get a few seconds break in sound at the change of scenes, which is very annoying, this does not happen though if the surround sound is off, its ok on the tv sound.
All answers would be appreciated

There's some info floating around to suggest that Samsung VM boxes have a problem with the HDMI output. This has been going on now for about 15 months and there's still no solution. Is yours a Samsung box too?

Have a look at the the Virgin Media support forums. There are some very lengthy threads there about this problem.
