I have a timberframe home and the bathroom backs onto the en-suite which is separated by a stud wall (plasterboard and timber) no insulation. I can hear very clearly if anyone in in either room through the wall is this to building regs and should it have some sort of soundproofing

thanks
Anthony

There should be insulation or the partition should be formed with 2 layers of plasterboard each side. Though there are are other methods of complying with the Regs.

That said it wouldn't do an awful lot.

Don't even consider NHBC if you were going to, this is well outside of their remit.

Not entirely clear, but if this is an en-suite / bedroom wall then building regs do not apply. But even so, these modern places are rubbish, even when up to regs. They don't demand sound proofing.

All new dwelling internal walls require a sound insulation of 40db (this is in the regs). Where does it say in Part E that this does not apply to partitions between ensuites and bedrooms? A partition formed with a single skin of board each side without insulation will not achieve this. Therefore insulation is required or additional boards are required to achieve the sound insulation.

Yeehar Freddy.

Sneaky indeed.

Was it the use of the word 'associated' that confused ya ? More than two syllables, got to be challenging.

Or the fact it was written on the right hand side of the page and you didn't think anything over there counted?

Or 'en' (as in en suite) is a French word and you dropped French before you took it?
