Client of mine having loft conversion. Installed old staircase with 250mm risers.
BC inspector failed staircase.

Advice from you pros is ther a alternative (loophole)or new staircase

The stair needs to be compliant and 250 riser is well over. New staircase required. Is it an old stair from somewhere else in the same house or did it come from a reclamation yard or similar?

There is no loophole. It will have to a proper 42° flight with compliant risers and goings, unless it is physically not possible, in which case alternative options may be considered

AD K makes it clear that if it is for a one-room loft conversion, and space is limited, a degree of flexibility is allowed.
Remember that the Regulation for stairs is not the dimensions quoted in AD K; it is simply that stairs shall be safe in use.
Safety in use can be obtained by familiarity.
The DCLG web site has some interesting accounts of appeals and determinations on staircases which are well-worth reading. In cases where inspectors cut up rough, I have quoted these occasionally, and they have backed down.
