Hi, we have a 1940's house with a small kitchen. We want to open up under the stairs and block up the existing doorway from the hallway and create a new entrance into the kitchen from under the stairs. Two questions, is the post running to the top of the stairs integral to support or can we remove it or replace with another kind of support. And, what regs are there for kitchen access/door ways?
