Help on removing 1 part of chimney breast

Can anyone help - need to do this on a shoe string tho!

I live in a 1920's 2up 2down terraced brick built house with an entry 1 side and solid to neighbours the other side.

I want to remove the chimney breast from my kitchen only. the house has a chimney stack that meets next doors chimney stack over the entry.

in the kitchen the fireplace is in the middle of the wall goes up slightly then turns 45degrees left, then 45degrees right to go vertical (where it joins the front room chimney breast).

I am thinking i can remove all the breast in the kitchen to just below 1st floor level, support 1 edge with a steel to take the front edge of the stack with 2 smaller steel coming of it to support the sides of the stack. i have double solid brick walls of which i will take the inner layer out to slot the steel into for support then obviously brick up around the steels

any comments or suggestions on this would be of interest please.

You'll need Building Regulations approval, which means you'll need to show that you've done proper structural calculations.

You would be wise to inform your neighbour as per the Party Wall Act so that they know it's happening - you probably shouldn't pretend they don't exist because AFAIK there can be circumstances in which what you need to do on your side is affected by what has already been done theirs, e.g. if they've already removed stuff.

They'll know about the work anyway as soon as you set to with the sledgehammer and breaker, and although there's no legal penalty for not complying with the PWA, and it makes no difference to any remedies your neighbour has if things go wrong on his side, it seems foolish to risk escalating any problems by not having kept him informed. I know that if my neighbour started doing structural work on our party wall I'd be round there like a shot, at the very least to satisfy myself that they'd got approval and were doing it properly. And I would start out p****d off that they hadn't informed me.

Its a pain trying to visualise what you are proposing. Why not post some pics, and go back and read over the last two months on here ref this very subject - there's masses of info.
