Hi really appreciate any advice
I've got a double garage but there is an internal brick wall in the middle. I want to remove most of it and replace with a steel beam. I've had a structural engineer round so I know what size beam I need. There is nothing above the garage, just a flat roof. Can I do this myself, and do I have to get buildings control to inspect it. If I do it myself and don't have it inspected could it be a problem when I sell the property
Many thanks

You can do it yourself, although rather obviously you will need assistance to get the beam into position.

If it's just a garage then probably no building control.

However is a steel beam actually needed at all - seems OTT for just a flat roof over a garage. How big is this garage?

Tell us about the imaginary structural engineer.

Hi
I'm only going on what the engineer recommended. The span is going to be nearly five metres
