I’ve got some tatty concrete fence posts and gravel boards that really need tarting up.

I wanted to paint them and keep the colour as near as regular concrete as they are e.g. an off white colour.

I bought some masonry paint samples from Dulux online but they are all quite different as you can see in the photos – grey is too grey and ‘chalky white’ is too white!

I don’t have a spare piece of concrete to take to a paint shop so that’s the obvious question out of the way, and I like contrasting colours so I’m reluctant to paint them the same colour as the fence.

Cream could look good against the dark brown fence panels but I’m not sure it would work against the blue slate or green grass.

Also do I need smooth or textured masonry paint?

Thanks all!

Smooth masonry paint. The concrete is very hungry so apply two well-thinned mist coats.

On the tops of the posts in particular it will help to slow weather erosion of the concrete.

For people who like timber, if you use Bitter Chocolate paint it blends in well with dark brown fence stain.
