My bathroom heated towel rail has en electric element so on one side it has a chrome T piece, that the heater is screwed into. On the other side, to make the plumbing symetrical, i have used one of these:

The problem is i can't seem to get it tight enough to stop it slightly leaking i.e. when it is screwed in and lined up with the angled valve it doesn't compress the rubber o ring enough to completely seal and another 360 degree turn would be too much. I have tried loads of ptfe and Boss White but over time it eventually slightly drips (when the system is cold).

Do i need some washers to make the o ring fully compessed when it is lined up with the valve?

Boss white and hemp would do it, but as steve32 has mentioned Loctite 55 is the modern equivalent. If you go with that watch the instruction video first as you wind loctite55 across the threads rather than into them.

For boss white and hemp look at this video but boss white in lieu of the "paste" Also I was taught to smear the boss white into the hemp before winding it on but this looks OK.
