I have some bullet style cameras which have no makers name on them.

The markings on each side are:-

Vari Focal B&W CCD Camera.

The wires are screened clear and a red. Is it safe to assume the red ia 12 VDC?

Can anyone identify the actual make ?

When there is no way to focus them why do they say "vari focus"?

If not should I assume they are about 380 line definition?

Take a picture.
Guessing on a vague description isnt worth spit.

I have just discovered that the front part unscrews and exposes a zoom lens with variable focus.

I will see if I can provide a photo soon.

Hi Tony,

I think so.

The industry standard supply for all CCTV cams I've seen is 12V DC about 100 - 500mA (except for a few with high power IR LED illumination). Regulated to be on the safe side.

The screened cable has to be for composite video output, so by a process of elimination, the red must be the +12V supply.

Run it up on a variable supply if you've got one, with a meter set to the 1A (or whatever) range, so that you can pull the plug before damage is done if things don't seem right. You won't do any damage by trying too low a supply voltage.

Industry standard is 12vdc?

Never seen 230VAC ones?

24vDC ones?

?????

Good point

But definitely can't be mains / 230VAC with wires that Tony's described.

And, 24VAC is extremely unlikely with that arrangement (common ground for CVBS and power supply) too.

24VDC definitely a possibility, but testing at 12VDC would do no harm.

Let us know the outcome, Tony.
