That light fitting is NOT class II / double insulated, and must be earthed.

Is it suitable for ceiling use - it looks like a wall light?

The earth wires in the cables must be sleeved green/yellow and connected to the Earth terminal. You should test for earth continuity back to the main earthing terminal at the consumer unit.

The 2 x red wires must be connected in a piece of insulated terminal strip - they are permanent lives. Your new light does not contain a terminal for these.

The black wire which connects to brown on the existing light should be sleeved brown and connected to L on the new light

The black wire which connects to blue on the existing light should be connected to N on the new light.

You should also check that the centre stud of the screw lampholder is connected to L and the outer ring to N.

You can see a connector block with an earth symbol, and you can see that one side of that terminal is connected to the body of the light.

You can see that an earth connection is shown in the wiring diagram.

What, in the name of all that is competent, makes you think that the light is Class II?

What is that large symbol (in a square) at the top of the label? It's not a "don't install on ceiling" symbol, by any chance, is it? (As Owain said, it's pretty clearly designed for wall mounting)

The OP also didn't say that (s)he wanted to fix it to the ceiling, only to connect it to a ceiling rose.

the light is a dakota plus 180 0843 AND IS NOT CLASS 2 !

thanks to all who noticed.

there are two dakota plus 180 and a dakota 180 mine is the dakota 180
although on the fitting label it states dakota plus 180 (see first pic of thread)

always use a qualified electrician

Blimey, that was hard work.

OK.
So you have a class I ceiling light to fit in place of the existing ceiling rose. Yes??

If so, you will need an additional bit of choc block. Use this to join together the two reds (they do not connect to anything else!)

The black that goes to the brown wire on the existing rose, that is your live to the light (should be sleeved brown or red)

The black that goes to the blue wire on the existing rose, that is your neutral to the light.

You should then be left with two bare earth conductors. These should be oversleeved green/yellow and connected to the earth terminal on the light.

That's it.

Surely the clue is in CEILING rose...
I don't think that anyone doubted that the OP's wish was presumably to attach it to the ceiling, where the rose was. The uncertainties discussed have been about whether the fitting pictured by the OP was suitable for fitting to a ceiling.

Kind Regards, John
