Scale Reducer?

Hi all,
The water pipes in my home currently have a scale reducer on the water main coming in to the house. It`s a "Liff limebeater" and has been on the system since the house was built, approx 1993.

My question to all you plumbers out there is: is it worth replacing? If so, shall I just replace for a similar item or try a "Liff CombiCare"?
Any help gratefully received,

So it doesn't work then. Throw it out and fit a silicon polyphosphate unit. Don't bother with magnetic or electronic units.
