Is it statutory to install an RCD on a shower circuit at this moment in time?

Yes I know its good practice.

At the moment you only need to install one if the manufacturer specifies it.

I would always ensure the shower circuit was either RCD or RCBO protected at the CU irrespective of the regs.

No need for RCD protection at all according the BS7671 bible of regs.

Manufacturers do often put it in their manuals as a must.......to cover their own rectum.

I personally have my shower on an RCD, and when I change a CU, or install a new shower cct, put them on an RCD.....but I would not bat an eyelid during a PIR.

BUT.......hold out for the 17th!

With the exception of TT supplies which are a bit different, the only things you currently MUST protect with an RCD, are socket outlets which may supply equipment for use outside.

And a couple items, depending on zoning/voltage, in a bath/shower room ;)
