Radiator flow

Recently brought a house. Radiator valves were leaking, therefore replaced all manual valves with TRVs and Lockshield valves (in same place as manual). Heating now going through the outlet first i.e lockshield. Unfortunately not sure which way flow went prior to change. Is this OK? Is this normal? Any comments welcomed. Confused!!!

Arrow is pointing upwards. Think they are bi-directional.

Though it should not matter with bi-directional valves, I have found that some brands are easier to balance when all fitted on the same side. There is definitely no down side to sticking them all on the inlet side, so you might as well swap those that are on the return side.

The flow must be in the direction of the arrow, otherwise the valve will chatter as it tries to close.

For a guide on balancing TRVs read: Drayton Guide to Balancing Systems with TRVs
