I have a house with new plumbing with an oil fired fully pressurised system.

When any of the hot taps on the first floor are partially opened they hammer severely.

The builder who did the conversion is very unhelpful so I'll probably have to fix the problem myself or get a plumber in - but I'd rather do it myself if I can.

There is an in-line unit immediately before the cold water stop cock which I suspect is a pressure reducing/control valve but I haven't seen a similar unit before so am not certain that's what it is. There does not seem to be any adjustment on the unit.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions as to the cause of the problem and more importantly a solution.

Thanks

Combi, or stored water?

Do you have a digital camera?

If you can't identify the problem easily then a quick cure would be to fit a shock arrester on the mains cold supply.
