The "Basic Settings" option on the left side of the screen will bring up what your current username /pasword settings are

Just in case you are using AOL for your ISP, don't have capital letters in the password, it doesn't support them with the router. (Took me an hour to discover this when a mates stopped working. He had changed his password)

This is Cisco's explination of CHAP authentication:

I used to have one of these routers using Sky as my ISP and had alot of problems with 'noise' on the line. It might be worth just trying a different mircofilter. Other things to try are plugging the router in to you main phone socket (with microfilter) and trying it, if you already are or that dosn't make a difference then try using the test socket behind your master socket (take the faceplate off to find this).

Thanks everybody. I have given up hope of getting this router to work. It was a Sky router so I couldnt alter some of the settings.
I have bitten the bullet and bought a standard one now so hopefully it will work when it turns up.

Had the router been 'unlocked'? Sky put their own firmware on to what is a standard Netgear router, but it means you can't enter username etc. or access alot of the features. The easiest way to tell is if you login to the router if there are any 'sky' logo's etc in there.

To get round it all you need to do is download the latest firmware Netgear and follow the step by step instructions... this will allow you to use the router as if it was one bought from the shop.

agree with duckegg - flashing your firmware is possibly your best option.

There is a tutorial here at Sky User Forums if you feel confident enough.

It may screw up your router - flashing firmware can go wrong - but, as you intend getting a newer router anyway, it seems you don't have much to lose really :p
