Red Quarry Tiles Help

Help! We have just bought a 1930s cottage which has Red Quarry Tiles floor in Kitchen and Hall, it really looks as though it needs help, can anyone suggest what to clean it with and also what to treat/polish/buff it up with. It will have been laid when the house was built so is old.
