Why does this happen the ball cock is not leaking, it is definatley filling up from the feed to the CH system, I have seen something that the heating coil has gone. Is this correct

The hot water system is pressurised the CH is open vented.

Do I have to replce the cylinder?

isolate the cold water feeding the cylinder does it stop ?

Can't locate the valve, the tank overflows without any hot water or central heating being active. if the water was coming from the pressurised cylinder i would have thought it would have been hot, it doesn't appear so.

shut your mains stopcock then.

This will not help identify if it is the coil that's gone, after lookig into this I now have s plumber coming tomorrow, to llo into this.

thanal all for the advice
won't it ?
if there is no pressure on the hot water from the mains it won't fill the f/e tank.
if the coil has gone.

or you have a blockage in your vent pipe or heating pipework.

but you are a plumber and know best.
